Now Offering a Much Needed
New Service for Our Customers

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Margaret’s Cleaners, your trusted expert for couture cleaning, is ready to assist you with the decontamination of all types of articles that are removable from your home. These select items include garments, textiles, leather, suede & fur articles, handbags, shoes, structured hats, and household items, including lamp shades, deco pillows and more.

Full immersion dry cleaning and laundry is considered effective against coronavirus. However, some articles mentioned above, are not appropriate for the immersion process. In addition, full immersion cleaning on “new” items from retailers is best to avoid whenever possible. For all these cases, our decontamination service provides an ideal solution.

Margaret’s has developed proprietary customized chambers as well as the processes necessary to treat articles using “best practices” for coronavirus remediation. Four separate processes are available to use during treatment, and are chosen depending on the type of article being treated.

Each treatment stage has been recommended for coronavirus as has been discussed in current available literature. A minimum of two processes will be applied to each article, which will provide additional safeguards and assure confidence of an effective treatment. A summary of each process step and our application table is provided below.

PROCESS 1:
Surface Decontamination

We use hospital grade, water based, chlorine and alcohol free disinfectants safe for all materials. To further ensure the processing quality, the current “best practice” for drying items is also used. Depending on material type, fabric and design, drying is completed in our drying chambers or placed in a sealed dehumidifying room.

PROCESS 2:
High Temperature Drying

Elevated temperatures are known to effectively eradicate viruses. Our drying chamber is very similar to a clothes dryer, which is a recommended treatment in coronavirus literature. However, in our custom large chambers, the garments do not tumble but remain stationary as the warm air thoroughly circulates around them. New garments can be left on their original hangers with the ID tags. All items shall be exposed to a temperature of 160°F for 30 minutes.

PROCESS 3:
Hydroxyl Decontamination

Hydroxyl radicals help keep the Earth’s atmosphere free from harmful compounds. Restoration companies use hydroxyl generators for deodorizing disaster cleanup of all materials from fabric to paper, and it is completely safe for people, animals, and plants. A controlled application of this gas has been proven to be more than 99.99% effective against pathogens such as coronaviruses and is used on every treatment we perform.

PROCESS 4:
UV Decontamination

The highest level of skill is necessary to properly ensure decontamination with ultraviolet light. This treatment will not be applied to “new” articles to avoid the possibility of fading. Every fabric and material is different and requires experienced technicians to assure appropriate application. Saturation with ultraviolet light is appropriate for some articles and when used, provides additional assurance.

We offer this new decontamination service for virtually anything you would like to have processed that does not require full immersion cleaning, just disinfecting. Margaret’s proprietary multi-step process will safely process your prized possessions from your hats to your shoes. Your items will be thoughtfully packaged for return delivery or shipment.
